I walk outside and suddenly it is nighttime, a curtain of dark falling all around. I am wearing a flowing long white nightgown, which swirls around me as I walk down the small hill to the sidewalk. I reach the end of the grass and step onto the concrete, breathing the cool night air and preparing to go for a stroll to calm my thoughts. Suddenly, a mysteriously handsome boy jumps suddenly from the shadows, and starts walking towards me purposefully, with a tiny half-smile and a penetrating look in his eyes. Startled, I turn to run. I look towards the bright, cozy building up the hill, lights blazing in every window, but don't take more than a step in that direction when I realize that for some reason I just can't go back there. I look around, to the unknown. I quickly turn the only other way of escape, down the darkened street, but get no further. The boy takes a flying jump and closes the distance between us, scooping me up into his arms. But instead of landing feet firmly on the ground, he hovers midair, easily supporting my weight as if I were lighter than a feather. Floating there, a few feet above the Earth, he grasps me tighter and looks deeply into my eyes with a passionate intensity and sincerity. "I'm not going to hurt you.", he whispers, and I know he means it. His eyes still transfixed on mine, he begins to telepathically send me a mental picture. I close my eyes and see us together, in a place warm and full of shadows. I get the blurry image of limbs intertwined, skin pressing against skin; of soft, tender kisses and words whispered for only the other to hear. The vivid picture of two people as one enthralls me, filling me with strange new emotions: enticement, sensuality, longing; but also fear. This invasion into my mind, pulling up thoughts and private feelings I never dared speak aloud shocks me to my very core. I open my eyes, and he is still staring at me; his eyes smoldering, a knowing look, as if he can look at me and see all that I am and ever have been. As if he knows me better than I know myself. I am scared, scared of feelings that intense, that deep. Scared of intimacy so complete. So I begin to struggle, fighting against the warm embrace that at the same time I want to hold onto. I am desperate, not sure if I'm pushing him away or pulling him closer; but feeling the need to do something. He gives another of his heart-bending half smiles, and his strength easily halts my struggles. Lifting one hand, he gently places his fingertips in the center of my forehead. He closes his eyes, and against my will my own lids fall in unison. I can tell this vision is more elaborate, as I feel the power surging through him and into me. As the picture forms, I see myself in the future, and I'm in what appears to be Utopia. In a place of indescribable beauty, I am surrounded by many happy people. We talk and laugh carelessly. Suddenly, the group breaks into song, and I join them, not knowing how I know the tune. It is a song of utter joy, speaking of love, among other things. In voices like bells we finish our song, and everyone breaks into applause. I feel happiness bubbling up within me. Suddenly, the crowd parts, and He rushes up to me and we embrace. "You're so beautiful!", he exclaims. "I can't believe how much you've changed in such a short time. No one would recognize you from who you used to be." Then he kisses me, and the picture begins to blur. As the vision fades, I hear his voice enter my swirling thoughts. "We could be so happy...", he whispers inside my head. I open my eyes and he is looking at me solemnly. I look back up at him, too stunned to speak. I saw so much: happiness, acceptance, the feeling of having someplace to belong; and most importantly, whole and complete love. I know then I could never be satisfied with the kind of life I'm living now. He knows I have come to this discovery, and looks smug. He reaches out a finger and begins lightly tracing my mouth, caressing my lips with his slightest touch. "You see how much easier things are when you don't fight destiny? We were fated to be together." He squeezes me tighter, and as agreement I place my arms around his neck. "And now we have forever.", he says, smiling. "Yes.", I say, because that's all that needs to be said. As we hold onto each other, we begin to ascend into the clouds, on a journey to the stars, leaving the earth and everything else behind.
THE END.
